maya’s well

As you know, my husband, Chris and I are in the process of adopting a baby girl from Ethiopia (For more about our adoption, visit our adoption/personal blog: www.pureandlasting.com). God is revealing to us that adopting Maya is just the beginning of the story of us and Africa. Chris and I talk almost daily about what else God has in store for our lives. Several months ago, we discovered an amazing organization called charity:water. They build wells in developing countries, providing clean water to people who are dying without it. After spending some time on their website, we said that one day, we want to raise the $5,000 to build a well. One day…Someday…Maybe…$5,000 sounded like a lot of money. Too much for us. And it is. But it isn’t too much for God. We’ve been praying for more. And so someday is now. We have started raising money to build a well in our daughter’s name.

Did you know that today, 4,500 children will die from water related diseases? In our world today, millions of women and children have to walk hours each day to get water from muddy ponds and rivers. Much of that water is infested with parasites and leeches. In fact, 80% of all diseases in the world are caused by unsafe drinking water and lack of sanitation. And the crazy thing is that for many of these people, clean water runs in lakes under their homes and villages, but they don’t have the drilling equipment or the money to reach it.

Our goal is to raise the $5,000 to build a well in the next three months. It is a big goal, but I know that it can be done. If you see all the need in the world, but don’t know what you can do to help, this is great opportunity to make a difference. Only $20 can give someone clean, safe water for two decades. Just $5,000 builds a well to serve a community of 250 people. That is 250 lives, not just saved, but transformed! Lives saved. Children given new life. Women who don’t have to walk for miles to bring home dirty disease-filled water. So far we have raised a little over $2,000. Do you remember what you spent your last $20 on? A dinner out, a shirt, a movie? The next $20 you spend can save a life. To donate to our campaign for clean water click here. We have the most amazing clients and friends. Together, we can make a dent in the global water crisis. Will you join us in building Maya’s well?

100% of the money raised through charity:water goes directly to water projects. Even better, when our project is complete, the well will be posted on Google Earth. We will get to see exactly what project our dollars funded. Who knows, maybe we will have a party with all the donors to celebrate clean water!! Below is a graphic from charity:water that explains exactly where the money will be going.
