christmas 2009!

This Christmas, my family got together at my parents’ house here in San Antonio for food, gifts, and all of our quirky family traditions.  Annalin (my neice) is 3 years old now, so it was her first Christmas where she really understood what was going on. Ha! It was so much fun to watch her play with her nativity set, tear through presents, and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Jesus. Makes me smile just thinking about it. :) I’ll be the first to admit I’m a slacker when it comes to taking photos of my personal life (weird, I know)… but this Christmas, I vowed to document every detail. :) Here are some of my favorites from this weekend. Enjoy :)

BTW: In case you’re wondering why my mom is wearing that… er… um… not-so-attractive Christmas necklace… she’s wearing it in honor of my Aunt Shellia who passed away last year. The necklace was a gag gift that they traded back-and-forth every Christmas for the past twenty years. Now that Shellia’s gone, my mom wears the necklace at Christmas time as a way to include Shellia in the celebration. :)

IMG_5668When we were kids, my grandma made my brother (Wesley) and I our own special Christmas stockings. Twenty-five years later, my mom still hangs ‘em and fills ‘em with goodies. We’re not kids anymore, but it’s nice to pretend. :)

IMG_5688My family is not known for our wrapping ability. In fact, we suck at wrapping gifts (and we aren’t afraid to put that in writing).  In case you can’t read the note above, it reads: “I didn’t do a great job wrapping this, but it still brings lots of love.”

IMG_5787Run outta wrapping paper while wrapping a gift? No prob. Just wrap the top and sides of the box and put it under the tree. :)

IMG_5804We’re known for giving gag gifts at Christmas time…. so I thought it’d be funny to give my grandma her very own durag. She wore it to Christmas dinner the next day (seriously). Grandma, you are the best. :)

IMG_5810When my grandpa was a boy, he gave his dad a box of chocolate-covered cherries every year for Christmas. Now my mom carries on the tradition. :)

IMG_5815My dad loves planes, tranes, and automobiles!

IMG_5818My sister-in-law (left) getting an apple cutter… weird gift, I know. Not sure how or why that was in her stocking. I’ll get back to you on that one. haha That’s me on the right, opening a Picasso 2010 calendar. I love ALL things Picasso.

IMG_5824My mom ran out of time and didn’t get Wesley’s monster truck tickets, so she wrapped a piece of paper instead. I love my weird family. :)

IMG_5827We love board games. After Christmas dinner, we always play a new game. This year, it was Mad Gab!!!

IMG_6068Last but not least, my dog Libby!! For Christmas, Chris bought her a Snuggie for dogs!! haha

Moe Clipperton - I loved all the family pics. I just have to know, who got the Helzberg’s bag? What did they get? Just curious.
Happy New Year! Enjoy keeping up on all your work. You do a great job. Loved the book you did for Annalinn. Your Mom showed it to Curt & I.

Amber Johnson - I love seeing and hearing about other families traditions! We also get a new board game every year and play it after dinner on Christmas!

Nessa K - So THAT’S the little lady that tries to hog up your seat while you’re working!! She’s absolutely precious in her snuggie =)

I’m glad you had such an awesome Christmas!

heather - I really love your Christmas pictures. They actually remind me a lot of my family especially in the wrapping area and mom running out of time to get a certain gift. It’s nice to see we’re not too weird afterall..haha.
